Summary

The Sheriff Street Lifting Bridge is a single-span rolling-lift bascule bridge of 1939–41 that carries Upper Sheriff Street across the Royal Canal at Spencer Dock in Dublin 1.[1][8] It is recorded by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (Reg. No. 50010016) with a Regional rating, but it does not appear on Dublin City Council's statutory Record of Protected Structures.[2][10] The bridge is now fixed and no longer operates as a lifting structure, and Dublin City Council has progressed remedial/restoration works for it under the "Spencer Bridge" project.[1] This note assesses its heritage status and any vacancy/dereliction signals.
