The Old Linen Hall is a corner-sited, four-bay two-storey former linen hall built in 1817 by the Earl of Shannon at the junction of Connolly and Casement Streets, and was in its heyday the largest linen market in Munster, serving a town with up to 600 weavers. [1][8] After the linen trade collapsed it was reused as a butter market, a mineral-water manufactory and, in the 20th century, a bakery, before falling out of use. [2] It is now vacant/derelict, recorded by the NIAH as "now disused", listed on Cork County Council's Derelict Sites Register, and the subject of a 2026 mixed-use refurbishment application. [1][4][7]
